Photography for Schools & Early Learning

Photos of kids being kids, not kids being photographed.

Calm in chaotic classrooms, easy with kids, real photos that capture the feeling of your school.
Let's Talk
Every school has its own thing. The curiosity in the reception classroom. The focus in the science lab. The way light moves through the library at 3pm.

The teachers who’ve been there twenty years and the ones in their first term. The architecture, the grounds, and the small daily details that make your school yours.
These are the photos worth taking.

How I photograph schools and early learning centres

The lived experience of raising two boys has taught me how to work with kids. Real people with real personalities, who relax when they feel comfortable and can be themselves.

15 years of doing this and I’ve learned how to connect with all ages. I get down to their level. I ask them questions about whatever they’re working on. I make terrible jokes and they either laugh with me or at me. Doesn’t matter, as long as they can relax and feel comfortable, the photos will look and feel natural.

Good planning is what makes shoot day work. I visit your school in person to discover what makes it special, then we build a prioritised shot list and detailed run sheet together. Year levels, learning areas, the moments that matter, who’s happy on camera and who’d rather not be. With everything mapped out in advance, we capture a beautiful, cohesive set of images efficiently. No wasted time, no guesswork.

What I bring to your school

DHS Working with Children Check on file

Non-negotiable for schools and early learning, non-negotiable for me too. I’ll have my current clearance with you before we lock in a date, no chasing required.

I’m a dad and I like working with kids

I’ll bring the energy, the patience and a few terrible jokes. Teachers, staff and students all get looked after, and we work together to get the shots.

Photos that build trust

Moments that feel genuine and help prospective families picture themselves at your school. The kind of imagery that makes your school the obvious choice.

Shot list planned, photo clearance sorted

We’ll work through your priorities a week or two out. Year levels, hero shots, staff comfort levels, and which kids have clearance. On the day, we follow a pre-planned runsheet so nothing gets missed and nothing gets used that shouldn’t. Simple, organised, stress-free.

A valuable content bank

A library of visuals to use across all your marketing materials. Website refresh, recruitment campaigns, open day brochures, digital ads, all built from a day or two on site. Real photos that capture the look and feel of your school and its community.

With Dave its more than the photos its the whole experience.

He understood what we were going for, and his photos reflect the authenticity we hoped to achieve.

The usual questions

Do you have a Working with Children Check?

Yes. I’ll have my current DHS Working with Children Check on file with you before we lock in a shoot date, along with proof of identity and any other compliance paperwork your school or centre needs. It’s non-negotiable for me too, not just a tick-the-box thing.

How do you handle consent and publishable lists?

Before the shoot, you’ll confirm consent has been given by all participating students, staff and families. We only photograph the people who’ve given consent, which keeps things straightforward on the day.

What’s the process leading up to the shoot?

It starts with a chat, either over the phone or in person. I’ll ask the right questions to understand what you need and what makes your school special. Then I’ll visit in person to walk the grounds with you and work out which areas and moments we’ll focus on. From there we build a shot list and a runsheet together, so by the time we get to shoot day everything is mapped out.

What kinds of photos do you deliver?

Photos that capture the feel of your school and what it’s like to be a student there. We focus on what sets your school apart and what makes it different. The mix typically includes hero shots for the prospectus and website, environmental shots of classrooms, labs and grounds, moments of teaching and learning, staff shots if needed, and the small details that tell your story like artwork, equipment, signage and gardens. Everything you need across your prospectus, website, social media, recruitment campaigns and open day collateral.

Tell me about your school or ELC.

A few lines is plenty to start with. The school or centre, what you’re working on, the timeline. I’ll come back ASAP with questions, ideas, or a quote.
